Are you hungry and have lesser time to cook? You can cook the Khichdi without giving too much effort. I will be sharing the recipe to prepare the ultimate dish of India: Khichdi. Khichdi is prepared anytime, any day or at any occasion in India. But the most famous occasion to cook Khichdi is the “Makar Sankranti” which comes in January. There is a tradition in India to cook Khichdi on this Day. Khichdi is so digestive and easy to cook that people also call it “The Fast and the light Food of India”.

There are different type of cooking style famous in India for the Khichdi so the Khichdi also has different types. But the most famous are:

  1. Simple Khichdi: Mix the lentils and rice and cook it with a little bit of salt and your Simple Khichdi is ready.

  2. Vegetable Khichdi: Whereas the Vegetable Khichdi is prepared with the rice, lentils with a lot of vegetables. It is also called as Tahri in some places of India.

So here we will discuss the recipes of both the Khichdis’s- Simple Khichdi as well as the Vegetable Khichdi.

First, I will tell you the recipe of simple one and then the recipe of Vegetable Khichdi.

Simple Khichdi Recipe:

​Description:
  • Cooking Time- 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Meal Type- Veg

  • Cuisine Type- Indian

  • Serve: 2 Person

​Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cups of Rice

  • 1/3 cups of lentils(Moong or Urad)

  • 4 cup of water

  • 1 pinch turmeric

  • Salt as per taste.

​Method:

  1. Take the rice and lentils in a bowl.

  2. Wash it thoroughly 3 to 4 times water and keep it in the bowl.

  3. Put a Cooker on the gas stove and add the lentils and the rice as well in it.Put the Rice and Lentils in a cooker

  4. Now, add 4 cups of water in it.

  5. Now, add the 1 pinches of turmeric in it.

  6. In the last, add the salt as per taste in it.

  7. Mix well and put the lid of cooker and let the blow 2 whistle of the cooker.

  8. Turn the gas stove off and let the extra air blow from the cooker.

  9. Now open the cooker and serve hot with the butter and some chutney.Khichdi is ready to serve
